Fly-Cruise-Fly

Milford Sound: A Must-Do Adventure

Milford Sound is one of those next-level spectacular places you simply have to experience. But let’s face it — the return journey from Queenstown by road or coach is a long one. That’s why we’ve partnered with the awesome team at Air Milford to make their Fly–Nature Cruise–Fly experience as accessible as possible.

Accessibility Requirements

To ensure a smooth experience, you’ll need to visit Air Milford the evening before your flight. This allows time to go over final details and ensure everything runs seamlessly on the day.

The tour is straightforward to manage for most people. If you use a wheelchair, it must be manual and collapsible. Rigid-frame chairs are fine as long as the wheels can be removed and the backrest folds down — the chair needs to fit in the aircraft’s storage compartment.

If possible, please include the type and dimensions of your wheelchair when you enquire or book.

Air Milford’s steps are designed to provide good access and accommodate most manual wheelchairs. For those who need it, an iBex stairclimbing transfer chair is available. With support, the transfer chair allows safe access to the rear mail door of the plane, where a simple transfer into the seat completes boarding.

Your wheelchair will be dismantled, securely stowed in the hold, and travel with you for the entire journey — from Queenstown to Milford Sound, onto the nature cruise, and back to Queenstown — all in one unforgettable day.

Partnering with Southern Discoveries:

We do our best to liaise with Southern Discoveries to accommodate all our guests comfortably on their cruises as well. One of their boats, Pride of Milford, is fully wheelchair accessible as below:

Wheelchair and ramp access on Milford cruise:

The Pride of Milford is one of our vessels that you will see cruising Milford Sound regularly on day trips. From the main wharf where you will board the cruise, there is ramp access and wheelchair access onto the Pride of Milford. From there, moving around the vessel during your Milford Sound experience on the water is accessible both inside and outside on the outer decks. For people with access needs, the Pride of Milford provides grand views from all angles.

Please note, there are wheelchair-accessible toilets at the Visitor Terminal, but not on the vessel.
