Adaptive Cycle Tours
New Zealand’s Ngā Haerenga – The Great Rides is a network of cycle trails spanning the country, from relaxed vineyard rides to multi-day wilderness journeys. Predominantly off-road, these trails connect people to the very best of Aotearoa New Zealand’s landscapes, heritage, environment, and culture.
Jezza played a part in developing the inclusive and accessible guidelines with Recreation Aotearoa bringing accessibility to a number of trails and realized the largest barrier was that no cycle tour operators offered adaptive adventure bikes alongside their standard product.
In 2023, we moved to change that. We introduced our first adaptive adventure bike and partnered with Cycle Nelson to open access on the Great Taste Trail. Since then, we’ve grown the fleet to four adaptive bikes, now integrated with operators across the South Island cycle trail network.
We’ve chosen the Bowhead Rogue for its reliability, adaptability across different trail conditions, and strong electric assist — enabling longer, more varied riding experiences. At this stage, riders do need full hand and arm function, as quad attachments are not yet part of the setup.
The bikes are strategically based in Nelson and Queenstown, available for daily hire or as more organised experience. Through strong operator partnerships, we can now deliver adaptive cycle touring options across multiple locations — contact us
