For Travellers

Your adventure starts here.

Ready for an adventure but not sure where to start? Makingtrax is your personal adaptive adventure advisor — working alongside you and our operator partners to find the right experience, matched to your desires and abilities.

A personal service, from first enquiry to final adventure.

Makingtrax isn't a booking agency or a directory. We're the advisory layer — working with both you and the operator to make sure everything is right before you arrive, and throughout your experience.

Step 01

Get in touch

Tell us what you're after — your desires, your abilities, your timeframe. We work via the website, WhatsApp, or direct contact — whatever works for you.

Step 02

We find the right fit

We match your desires and abilities to the right experience and operator — drawing on our network of partnered and endorsed operators across Aotearoa.

Step 03

We coordinate end to end

We liaise with the operator on your behalf — equipment, briefings, safety — so everything is in place before you arrive. You book and pay the operator directly.

Step 04

You adventure

The experience is yours. We stay available throughout — and at the end, if you'd like to give back, Koha is welcome. We take no payment for our advisory service.

Bespoke Experiences

Adventures that don't fit the standard framework

Some of Aotearoa's most spectacular experiences sit outside the standard operator offering — river trips, glacier landings, backcountry adventures that require adaptive equipment, specialist coordination, and real expertise to deliver safely. These are the experiences people have been told aren't possible for them. Makingtrax makes them possible.

  • River and whitewater experiences
  • Glacier and alpine adventures
  • Backcountry and remote experiences
  • Paragliding and aerial experiences
  • Custom multi-day itineraries

Equipment and systems that make it happen

Behind every Makingtrax experience is purpose-built adaptive equipment — designed, manufactured, and operated by Makingtrax. If you need specialist equipment for an experience, or advice on what's possible, we're the people to ask.

  • Water-based harness systems — rafting and kayaking
  • Glacier and alpine adaptive equipment

Our model

Koha

A gift. A contribution. A relationship.

Makingtrax operates on a Koha model — a traditional Māori concept of gifting and reciprocity. We take no payment for our traveller advisory service. You pay and participate directly with the operator. At the end of your Kiwi adventure, if our service has added value, a Koha — a gift or donation — is welcome. It helps us continue doing what we do, and supports the Makingtrax Foundation.
